ART 1035: Introduction to Art
Art Project: Self-Portrait
Due: Sunday April 10, 2022, at 11:59 PM
Learning Outcomes:
- Explain how art expresses individual and group identity
- Discuss how art serves as a commentary on society
- Explore your identity through art
Required Materials (dependent on which medium you choose to complete your self-portrait):
- Drawing utensils
- Painting supplies (watercolor or acrylic paint)
- Two-Dimensional Images from photographs, magazines, or other papers
- Scissors
- Glue Sticks or Adhesive
- 9x12 or 11x14 piece of paper
Directions:
- Create a self-portrait of yourself by either drawing a self-portrait, painting a self-portrait, or creating a collage about who you are.
- If you choose to draw or paint your self-portrait
- Using your sketchbook, draw or paint a self-portrait
- The self-portrait should fill the majority of your page.
- If you choose to create a collage about yourself
- You will completely cover a page from your sketchbook with images and words that tell who you are
- This will be your expressions of your identity: personal, religious, cultural, etc.
- Use images of things that make up your physical life
- Overlap the images so that you cover the whole surface of the paper.
- None of the background paper should be visible.
- Photograph or scan your self-portrait and submit your assignment on D2L in either .jpg or .pdf.
You will be graded on effort, not artistic skill.
