Art Project: Symbols in Collage

Learning Outcomes (What this will help you understand):
- Explain and distinguish between symbolism and iconography
- Describe connections between symbolism, iconography, and storytelling
- Identify metaphorical meaning in art
Required Materials:
- Magazines, photographs, or other paper objects
- Scissors
- Glue Sticks or Adhesive
- 9x12 or 11x14 piece of paper
Directions:
- Create a collage using symbols that represent you
- Cut out a variety of objects that represent you, do not use a photograph of yourself. You can use magazines, images, words, or anything else you can glue down to your paper.
- Overlap the images so that you cover the whole surface of the paper.
- None of the background paper should be visible.
- Photograph or Scan your collage and submit your assignment in .jpg or .pdf on D2L.
- Crop your submitted image close to the edge of your collage.
You will be graded on effort, not artistic skill.
